Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, has appointed 56 leading experts across housing, transport, economy, and skills to help deliver his key priorities of Growth for Everyone, Jobs for Everyone, Homes for Everyone, and Journeys for Everyone. These experts will form four dedicated taskforces, working to shape policies that tackle some of the region’s biggest challenges.

The first meeting of the Growth Taskforce took place on January 27 at the West Midlands Combined Authority office in Birmingham, where members discussed strategies to drive economic growth while protecting the environment. Discussions focused on fostering innovation, supporting businesses, and ensuring economic benefits reach all communities.

The Journeys Taskforce is set to meet tonight (January 28) to explore ways to improve transport accessibility, safety, and affordability across the region. On February 5, the Homes Taskforce will focus on expanding social and affordable housing, while the Jobs Taskforce, meeting on February 6, will address skills training, apprenticeships, and youth unemployment.

Mayor Richard Parker emphasised his commitment to creating opportunities and improving lives, stating, “My mission is simple: jobs, homes, growth, and journeys for everyone in the West Midlands. These taskforces bring together the brightest minds to turn vision into action and deliver real solutions that make a lasting difference.”

The taskforces will provide expert advice, challenge existing strategies, and propose innovative solutions to drive long-term progress. Members include specialists from business, education, healthcare, and community organisations, all working together to shape policies and lead transformative projects across the West Midlands.
