Suella Braverman Calls for Tougher Immigration Policies in DC Speech

By Antara Verma

London: Former UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman has called for a harsher crackdown on immigration, urging “more action, more arrests, more deportations, more convictions” in a speech at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. Braverman praised the policies of former U.S. President Donald Trump and criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s leadership, claiming that mass migration poses an “existential threat” to Western civilization.

“There is hope that the UK can follow the U.S. example of the revival of freedom.” – Suella Braverman

Braverman began her speech by stating that the U.S., Italy, and Argentina are “waking up from their woke nightmare” and suggested that the UK should follow suit. She blamed the country’s economic struggles, including the risk of recession and job losses, on what she described as Starmer’s failure to act decisively.

Criticism of Migration Policies

A vocal critic of mass migration, Braverman reiterated her long-held stance that the UK has been overwhelmed by an influx of immigrants who, she claims, “refuse to assimilate.” She argued that some migrants reject British culture, stating that those who “refuse to wear Western clothing” and embrace “Judaeo-Christian values” do not have the nation’s best interests at heart.

Braverman also reflected on her family’s history, contrasting their “gratitude and admiration for the British Empire” with what she described as modern immigrants who “want to take, take, take.” She linked immigration to rising crime rates, asserting that many individuals on trial for murder in the UK are migrants.

Calls for a Harder Line

During her speech, Braverman lamented her inability to implement stricter border policies while in office, citing opposition from both left-wing critics and members of her own Conservative Party. She accused fellow conservatives of failing to recognize the economic stagnation caused by “unlimited and unprecedented migration.”

Braverman concluded with a call to action, urging the UK to adopt a tougher stance on immigration, following the example set by the U.S. under Trump. She expressed optimism that a shift away from progressive policies is already underway, stating, “there is hope that the UK can follow the U.S. example of the revival of freedom.”
