Amorim Dismisses Fernandes Exit Rumours Amid Real Madrid Links

Fernandes’ performances this season have been pivotal for United, who have faced their fair share of challenges

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has firmly denied recent rumours suggesting that Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes is set to leave the club, following reports that Real Madrid are interested in signing the 30-year-old playmaker.

Fernandes has been one of United’s standout performers this season, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions. Despite the club’s struggles, he has been a consistent and influential figure, which has led to speculation about his future. Real Madrid, on the lookout for a creative midfielder to potentially replace the aging Luka Modric, have reportedly shown interest in the Portuguese international.
However, Amorim, who has been linked with the United managerial position, swiftly quashed any talk of a transfer. When asked about the possibility of Fernandes leaving for Madrid, the coach was unequivocal in his response: “No, it’s not going to happen.” Amorim stressed that Fernandes remains central to United’s plans for the future and their ambition to return to the top of English football.

“I want Bruno here because we want to win the Premier League again, so we want the best players,” Amorim added. “We are in control of the situation, and I feel that he is really happy here.” The United boss acknowledged that Fernandes occasionally shows signs of frustration on the pitch but explained that this is simply due to his strong desire for success. “He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him,” Amorim concluded.

Fernandes’ performances this season have been pivotal for United, who have faced their fair share of challenges. The midfielder’s ability to dictate play, create opportunities, and score crucial goals has made him a key figure in the team’s efforts to secure a top-four finish and a return to Champions League football next season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s cross-town rivals, Manchester City, are facing an injury crisis of their own. City’s top scorer, Erling Haaland, has been ruled out for several weeks after suffering an ankle injury during the team’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Bournemouth on Sunday. The 24-year-old striker, who has scored 30 goals in 40 appearances this season, was seen leaving the Vitality Stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot.
City confirmed that Haaland underwent tests on Monday and will seek specialist consultation to determine the full extent of the injury. “Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup,” a statement from the club read.

Haaland’s absence could be a significant blow for City as they continue their pursuit of domestic and international success. With the Norwegian forward sidelined, manager Pep Guardiola will have to find alternative attacking options to maintain the club’s push for titles.
As for Manchester United, Amorim’s reaffirmation of Fernandes’ importance will be a relief to fans, who will be hoping that the Portuguese midfielder stays at Old Trafford and continues to be the driving force in the club’s rebuilding process.
