Croydon cheers for Eagles

Excitement is sweeping through Croydon as Crystal Palace FC prepares to take centre stage at Wembley for the FA Cup Final. With the borough firmly behind them, the Eagles are flying high on a wave of community pride and support.

From lifelong fans to families who’ve watched from across the road, Croydon residents have been sharing their memories and stories of devotion to their beloved football club.

Debbie Bentley-Ross, a long-time supporter, is overjoyed to be attending the final in person. “I’ve supported Crystal Palace since I was a little girl — my dad used to take a box for me to stand on and I’d hold the handrails. Palace deserve to win this weekend. Come on Eagles!”

Ayana Williams, another Croydon resident, reminisced about growing up next to the club’s Selhurst Park stadium. “For over 50 years, we’ve seen the highs and lows. As kids, we used to wait by the Holmesdale Road entrance at half-time — the gates would open and local kids could watch the second half for free. Our parents couldn’t afford tickets, but those memories are priceless. We love what Palace does for the community. Come on Palace!”

This marks Crystal Palace’s third FA Cup Final, and Croydon Council is already working with the club to plan a potential celebration for fans if the Eagles lift the trophy.

Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, who is also a lifelong Palace supporter, expressed his pride: “I know what this match means for fans. The excitement has been building in Croydon and we’re hopeful they’ll bring the cup home. Whatever the outcome, Croydon is proud of their achievements and all the incredible work Palace and the Palace for Life Foundation do for our borough.”

Win or lose, the connection between Crystal Palace FC and its Croydon community is stronger than ever — built on shared memories, deep-rooted loyalty, and a future full of hope.
