De Bruyne Open to Premier League Stay After Manchester City Exit

The midfielder also revealed he was surprised that City made no contract offer for him to remain at the club. Despite his shock, he says he respects the decision and remains focused on finishing strong

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed he is open to continuing his career in the Premier League after he leaves the club at the end of the current season. The 33-year-old Belgian maestro, who joined City in 2015, will depart after nearly a decade of exceptional service and silverware.
De Bruyne has become one of the most decorated and respected midfielders in Premier League history, winning six league titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, and five League Cups. With over 400 appearances for the club, his departure marks the end of a transformative era at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite recent speculation linking him to potential moves abroad—including the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer—De Bruyne has not ruled out staying in England if the right opportunity arises.
“I’m open for anything, just because I have to look at the whole picture,” De Bruyne said in an interview with The Athletic. “I’m looking at sporting, family, everything together—what makes the most sense for me and my family. I don’t know what that is right now, because it depends on when you speak to people and what they say about their projects. Like I said, I still feel like I can play at a good level, but I’ll have to make a decision once I know a little bit more.”
De Bruyne’s 2024–25 campaign has been hampered by injuries that sidelined him for a significant stretch. However, when fit, he has continued to deliver influential performances. This season, he has featured in 35 matches across competitions, scoring five goals and registering eight assists.
The midfielder also revealed he was surprised that City made no contract offer for him to remain at the club. Despite his shock, he says he respects the decision and remains focused on finishing strong.
“I have not had any offer the whole year. They [City] just took a decision. Obviously, I was a bit surprised, but I just have to accept it. It’s fine,” De Bruyne explained. “Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level, like I’m showing. I understand clubs have to make decisions.”
De Bruyne’s departure will leave a significant void in Manchester City’s midfield. Since his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2015, he has played a central role in shaping Pep Guardiola’s era of dominance. Known for his vision, precision passing, and leadership, De Bruyne has consistently delivered in high-stakes matches and has been a cornerstone of the club’s domestic and European success.
As the season nears its conclusion, all eyes will be on where De Bruyne heads next. While lucrative offers from abroad are reportedly on the table, his openness to remaining in the Premier League could spark interest from English clubs seeking a proven midfield general.
Whether he continues in England or chooses a new challenge overseas, De Bruyne’s legacy as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielders is already firmly cemented.
