ENG vs IND : 2nd Test Day 2 Lunch Updates

India seem to continue their dominance on Day 2 of the second Test at Edgbaston, reaching 419 for 6 at lunch. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front, unbeaten on 168, while Ravindra Jadeja added a crucial 89 before falling just before the interval. England managed only one wicket in the morning session, with Josh Tongue removing Washington Sundar for 1, breaking the wicketless streak. The pitch remained flat, offering little to the bowlers, and England’s attack looked increasingly fatigued under the sun.

On Day 1, India recovered strongly after early setbacks. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a fluent 87, while Gill anchored the innings with a composed century, finishing Day 1 on 114 not out. Despite a few tight spells from Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir, England struggled to break key partnerships or control the run rate. The decision to bowl first has so far backfired.

India now look set for a total well beyond 450, putting the pressure firmly on England. However, eyebrows have been raised over India’s team selection. Cricket legends Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar have questioned the omission of India’s top spinners. Ganguly commented, “I’m not sure whether India are playing their two best spinners… I am surprised with that.” With spin expected to play a bigger role later in the match, the decision may yet prove costly of excluding top India spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
