Gunners Delay Liverpool Party

The result not only extends Ipswich’s winless run to 13 games but also reinforces Arsenal’s strong position in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal continued their impressive run of form with a comprehensive 4–0 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road, extending their momentum from midweek Champions League success and delaying Liverpool’s title celebrations in the process.

Returning to Portman Road for their first league visit in over 23 years, the Gunners wasted no time in asserting dominance. Leandro Trossard opened the scoring early, finishing off a flowing move involving Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka. The goal marked Arsenal’s 100th across all competitions this season and set the tone for what was to follow.

Arsenal doubled their lead just 14 minutes later. Gabriel Martinelli tapped in at the far post after Mikel Merino’s clever flick inside the box. The goal was Martinelli’s 50th for the club, a major personal milestone for the Brazilian winger.

Ipswich’s challenge became even steeper shortly before halftime when Leif Davis was shown a straight red card for a dangerous stamp on Saka. Down to 10 men, Ipswich struggled to keep pace as Arsenal kept their foot on the gas.

Trossard added his second in the 68th minute, curling a precise shot into the far corner following a slick short-corner routine. It was a well-deserved brace for the Belgian, who has been in excellent form during Arsenal’s late-season surge.

The Gunners rounded off the win in style when 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri came off the bench to score in the final minutes. After a smart layoff from Ødegaard, the teenager’s shot took a deflection before nestling into the back of the net, adding another memorable moment to his young career.

The result not only extends Ipswich’s winless run to 13 games but also reinforces Arsenal’s strong position in the Premier League title race. While Liverpool’s fate still hangs on their result against Leicester City, Arsenal’s dominant display ensured the celebrations would be on hold at Anfield for now.

With confidence high, Arsenal now shift focus to their upcoming Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, before welcoming Paris Saint-Germain to the Emirates Stadium for the Champions League semi-final first leg—a pivotal moment in what could be a historic season.
