The charges follow a detailed file submitted by Bedfordshire Police, culminating in what could become one of the most high-profile criminal trials involving internet personalities in the UK
Controversial influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate are set to face criminal prosecution in the UK, with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirming that 21 charges have been authorised against the brothers following a Bedfordshire Police investigation.
Andrew Tate, 38, faces 10 charges, including rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain. These are related to three alleged victims. His younger brother Tristan, 36, faces 11 charges tied to one alleged victim, including rape, assault, and trafficking.
The charges follow a detailed file submitted by Bedfordshire Police, culminating in what could become one of the most high-profile criminal trials involving internet personalities in the UK. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2012 and 2015 in the UK, prior to the brothers’ relocation to Romania, where they currently face separate charges related to similar crimes.
Born in the U.S. to an American chess master and a British catering assistant, the Tates moved to Luton, Bedfordshire, with their mother after their parents’ divorce. Andrew, once a professional kickboxer, has since gained notoriety as a far-right influencer who proudly brands himself a misogynist. He has amassed a vast following online, with content in which he claims women should “stay home,” “cook and clean,” while men “go provide”, luring them with his luxury lifestyle and visuals of expensive cars, watches, private jets and yachts. The brothers deny all allegations, claiming they are “innocent men” and in turned blamed the “matrix” – their code for a system they claim is orchestrated against them. Their legal team has indicated they will “robustly defend” the charges “here (Romania) and in the UK”.
